Today's Take

What matters most today isn't the volume of individual news items, but which variables have started shifting simultaneously.

AI

2026-04-04

Event: Alibaba Tongyi Lab officially released the video generation model Wan2.7-Video, featuring "story-core driven" architecture supporting full-modal input and end-to-end creation.

Why it matters: A significant advancement in AI with direct implications for model capabilities and product form factors.

My colleague was laid off in the morning; by afternoon, his "digital avatar" was online answering questions—so I built an open-source toolkit to counter this

Event: Sharing Creations - @one121121 - It started with a post I came across: "A colleague who was at his desk in the morning was gone by afternoon due to layoffs. I thought it was just another routine personnel change, but then a message popped up from my former colleague—'Hello, I'm the digital avatar of the departed employee, you can ask me questions.' The company had fed all his documents, code, and chat logs into AI, creating a digital stand-in that could answer questions in his voice and write code to his standards. The person is gone, but the 'soul' remains." A chill ran down my spine after reading this.

Released just 1 day ago, Alibaba Qwen 3.6-Plus rockets to top of OpenRouter leaderboard

Event: On April 2, Alibaba released the new large language model Qwen3.6-Plus, the first in the Qwen 3.6 series, dubbed "China's strongest coding model," with a default 1 million token context window. Within just one day of release, it shot to the top of OpenRouter's daily leaderboard, with daily usage surpassing 1.4 trillion tokens, breaking the platform's global record for single-day single-model usage. On the internationally renowned Arena coding benchmark, the preview version ranked first in China, making Alibaba the second-ranked AI institution globally for coding capability. After the official version launched on OpenRouter, usage surged 711%, with pricing below Claude API. The model is now available on Alibaba Cloud Bailian platform for developers and general users. The Qwen 3.6 series will subsequently open-source additional model sizes, with flagship model Qwen3.6-Max launching soon.

Why it matters: Large language model performance has implications for technological development.

Claude bans OpenClaw

Event: Anthropic officially announced a ban on OpenClaw and other third-party platforms, discontinuing third-party harness support. Subscription fees now apply only to Claude's official website, app, or official development tools. Claude Code lead confirmed the news, stating third-party usage requires additional per-token payment. The "Father of Lobster" said he tried劝 advising for a week without success. Anthropic stated the ban was due to third parties "exploiting the system" causing unbearable server load. Twitter users initiated a subscription cancellation wave. Anthropic explained that model service subscription pricing is based on normal individual usage intensity; third-party autonomous agent tools drive up usage, and token arbitrage is intolerable. Additionally, the "Father of Lobster" joined OpenAI; Google had also previously banned Lobster.

DeepSeek V4 prioritizes domestic chip adaptation; Alibaba, ByteDance, Tencent rush to preorder Huawei chips

Event: DeepSeek V4 prioritizes adaptation for domestic AI chips including Huawei and Cambricon, having completed底层 underlying code rewrite and verification, with two domestic chip-based derivative versions in simultaneous development; Alibaba, ByteDance, and Tencent have preordered hundreds of thousands of Huawei's new chips.

Why it matters: Leading model vendors prioritizing domestic chip adaptation signals that domestic computing power is entering the mainstream supply chain, potentially reshaping the chip landscape and reducing dependence on NVIDIA. Major internet companies' advance orders reflect urgent expectations for domestic chip supply.

Core component design analysis for coding agents

Event: A technical article systematically analyzes the design framework for coding agents, detailing how tool invocation, memory management, and code repository context integration enable large models to function effectively in real development scenarios.

Why it matters: Engineering practice is shifting from "model capability competition" to "system design competition"—toolchain integration capability and context management quality directly determine a model's practical utility in production environments.

AI's 5 major trends for 2026: Moving from pilots to scaled deployment

Event: Industry observers identify five major AI trends for 2026: enterprises shifting from pilot projects to scaled deployment, the rise of agentic AI, data infrastructure reshaping, governance and risk management, and talent structure transformation.

Why it matters: Moving from "pilot hell" to scaled deployment means AI's valuation anchor is shifting from technical demonstration capability to actual ROI, with MLOps maturity becoming a core competitive variable for enterprises.

A ready-to-use Spring Boot 4 DDD engineering scaffold, suitable for AI-initialized project references

Event: Java - @jarryli - > A ready-to-use DDD (Domain-Driven Design) engineering scaffold, based on Spring Boot 4.0.1 and Java 21. Carefully crafted Spring Boot scaffold using newer frameworks and JDK. A ready-to-use DDD (Domain-Driven Design) engineering scaffold, based on Spring Boot 4.0.1 and Java 21. Carefully crafted Spring Boot scaffold using newer frameworks and JDK. I've been using it for a while and it feels great. Especially when having AI generate projects, with a reference, AI knows what rules to follow for setup, rather than vaguely saying "initialize the project according to DDD structure."

Former Xiaomi and ByteDance hardware executive Xu Rui joins Meta to lead newly formed AI hardware team

Event: Former Xiaomi and ByteDance hardware business executive Xu Rui will lead Meta's newly formed AI hardware team under MSL. Xu Rui previously worked at multiple internet technology companies including Xiaomi (2015-2017, participating in Xiaomi's transformation) and ByteDance (2020-2022 as hardware R&D lead). Before joining Meta, he served as COO at K-Scale Labs and later joined Dreamer as product manager. In March this year, Dreamer was acquired by Meta via "acqui-hire."

Duan Yongping shifts to认可 endorsement after on-site Pop Mart due diligence

Event: Duan Yongping conducted on-site due diligence at Pop Mart stores, combining founder research, customer analysis, and cross-cultural penetration observations. Within six days, he shifted from questioning to endorsement, believing it meets the "good business, good people, good price" criteria, and may have established a position.

Why it matters: A top-tier investor's shift on Pop Mart from "didn't understand" to "heavy position" anchors the valuation logic for consumer brand overseas expansion—cross-cultural penetration power matters more than domestic market share.

Musk requires SpaceX IPO participants to purchase Grok subscriptions

Event: Musk requires investment banks participating in the SpaceX IPO to purchase Grok subscriptions. Some banks have agreed to commit tens of millions of dollars, and some have begun integrating Grok into their own systems.

Why it matters: Mandatory bundling of IPO underwriting eligibility with AI service subscriptions effectively leverages capital markets' default distribution power to drive traffic to one's own AI products, changing the commercial terms structure of investment banking services.

What are the advantages of buying a coding plan package compared to GPT membership?

Event: Programmer - @kamikaze472 - Coding plans generally start at 30-50 RMB. GPT Plus membership in Turkey region is around 80. Coding plans generally start at 30-50 RMB. GPT Plus membership in Turkey region is around 80. There have been many posts on the forum discussing this. For pure coding without compliance concerns, GPT Plus is definitely the priority. Setting aside compliance/stability issues, coding plans offer more than just coding—some people, like me, just bought it to try it out. Currently for coding, I mainly use Copilot/GPT Plus's Claude/codex models. GPT membership is essentially codex coding plan, just different terminology. Simply put, domestic ones cost 1/5-1/6 the price for the same volume, but are slightly weaker. They can be used together for daily modifications rather than complex task planning and疑难 troubleshooting analysis. New accounts in the US, UK, and Singapore get the first month of Plus or Business free—I prefer using that, costs are much lower and execution is quite good.
